Dimensions (HxWxD) : 42 x 17 x 27 cm | Wood
Period: 1960–1970. Bali, Indonesia. Statue depicting a Janger dancer.
The Janger dance is a Balinese tradition dating back to the 1930s, featuring young men and women dancing and singing together in a playful and flirtatious manner. It is a dynamic and visually striking performance, characterized by the contrast between the women—the “janger”—and the men—the “kecak”—who engage in vocal exchanges with the female dancers. Accompanied by the music of a Gamelan orchestra, the dance showcases the women’s graceful arm and hand movements alongside the men’s more vigorous gestures, conveying stories and emotions.
